Enlightenment thinking declared that the world is best understood through reason and science. Transcendentalists believed that they had knowledge about themselves and the world around them that goes beyond what science can tell you that came from intuition and imagination. The two are like a coin-something that has two sides, but ultimately comes together and is one object. Transcendentalists thought that studying the world using only science and reason was insufficient and went on to emphasize the importance of our emotion and intuition. Transcendentalism was an intellectual movement, and the thinkers were not wrong to take such action.
As a person I believe myself to be very intuitive, insightful, and conscientious. I see that the world is filled with darkness and sin but I don’t believe it makes up every individual. For this reason I can relate more to transcendentalists than dark romanticists. I am very in touch with myself and enjoy activities that a transcendentalists would partake in. Transcendentalism is a system based on the idea that in order to understand the nature of reality one must first examine and analyze the reasoning process that governs the nature of experience. Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson is about him finding the love of nature is a feeling inward and outward the body/soul, and Walden by Henry David Thoreau is about his journey into nature and living by a pond.. In the description provided, it defines Romanticism as “devotion to beauty; love of and worship of nature”. In the poem, Bryant talks about beauty and love of nature. Bryant talks about beauty when he writes about an “eloquence of beauty”. Here Bryant is talking about a love of nature “To him who in the love of nature holds”, Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Self-Reliance” suits the description of Transcendentalism and its “Basic Beliefs” because it describes how everyone should just be themselves no matter what others think.
Transcendentalism allows people to undertake a new path of enlightenment to understand their life and the world around them. From seizing the day to differentiating from societal norms, transcendentalism lets some adopt a more positive process of enjoying life. On the other hand, some take transcendentalist beliefs too far and stretch them beyond their worth. These extremists overshadow the positives of this method of thinking which convinces others that transcendentalism is evil. But in reality, transcendentalism is an optimistic way to live which should not be challenged by extreme individuals.

Emerging in the mid-19th century, Transcendentalism became a key philosophical movement that allowed individuals to connect with nature and understand the concepts of spirituality and self-reliance. Many thought these ideas should be predominant in the intellectual reality of human beings. Not only did Transcendentalism focus on spirituality and self-reliance, but it also immersed itself in conceptualizing one’s intuition instead of understanding the reason or rational explanation for a certain notion. The Transcendentalist Movement began with two influential figures of the time, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. While they both were considered transcendentalists and shared several beliefs, they also possessed ideas that varied from one another in drastically

What is Transcendentalism? Transcendentalism is the belief of the goodness in people and nature and that society ruins the goodness of an individual by its harsh rules and regulations and the only way a person can truly be good is when they are away from society and truly independent and self-reliant. Transcendentalism is individualism; it’s believing that a person is best when they are independent. In a way, it’s what keeps us going in life, our love and passion for something. It’s doing what you want to do because you want to do it and it doesn’t matter what anyone else says because what matters is your happiness.

In this regard, a Taoist would most likely not involve themselves with political or social debates, arguing that it goes against the flow of nature. A Transcendentalist would wholeheartedly engage in the debate, however, if they felt it went against standards of equality or felt unjust. Transcendentalists often advocated for violence or blunt protests in order to advocate for their beliefs. Therefore, the legacies of these philosophies differ

Hence there have been debates over whether human emotions such as romantic love can be compatible with religion as these traits may be deemed as human hubris in religion. Romantic love is an eclectic concept that can take on different meanings in different contexts; hence the romantic love that I will discuss in this essay will be based on the concepts of Romanticism and Love.
