What a loving family. In the Watsons go to Birmingham-1963, Christopher Paul Curtis, the author shows us the good relationship between the family by the characters actions, words, and feelings. The Watson have a good relationship between each other. First, the author shows The good relationship between the family with the characters action. Ancestors in Our Genome, addresses the continuingly advancing disagreement upon whom our closest ancestor is within the great apes, described as the hominoid trichotomy debate. The author, Eugene E. Harris examines many different sources of evidence within the book, and with the help of improvements in biological and DNA technology he helps discover who our closest ancestors were. Also when we were first separated from them and how the separation took place. Although there have been many recent advances in technology, a large number of unanswered questions are still a mystery within our genome and evolution from the great apes. Chapter one discusses the debate of morphology - studying fossil evidence of the great apes - versus molecular
The novel Lost Names by Richard Kim gives a glimpse of Korea during the period in which Japan had colonized it and had been conquering a plethora of other Asian countries. It follows the life of a young boy as he and his family live in the colonized country of Korea and speaks of how their lives were effected. The writing is accomplished in giving testimony to the occupation of the Japanese of Korea and its people and the ways in which they enforced allegiance to Japan. By means of policy, law, and everyday practices the Japanese attempted to create an allegiance to themselves from the Koreans; while the majority of these succeeded at some level they also created a deep set hatred by the people because of the oppressive practices used.

While reading Kathryn Walbert’s essay on primary sources I learned many important things. The first thing I learned was that primary sources are anything created for the purpose of studying that was created in historical times. The second thing I learned is that primary sources are important to read about because they are very important keys to what life was like in the past. This is very important because it gives you an in depth understanding of how life was and gives you more information on what you are trying to study. The third thing that I learned was that simply because something is made now from the historical time period doesn’t make that item a primary source.
In A History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage, the similarities and differences in the economic and political role of drinks such as spirits and coffee between the Colonial Period and the Age of Reason are presented. Economic similarities between these periods include that spirits and coffee were agriculturally produced and traded between areas for items and that both of these drinks slowly promoted the growth of capitalism. An economic difference is a trade of spirits being used as slave currency and encouraging slavery while coffee promoted equality between different economic classes. Political similarities include spirits and coffee shifting political power and the drinks’ role in challenging the government. A political difference
Propaganda posters during World War II were used to address issues to citizens. In the article “History as Historical Documents”, by Rodney F. Allen, it was stated a good poster is one that communicates a clear message and draws the attention of the viewer (1). These posters were able to influence a lot of citizens to make sacrifices and decisions to help the troops while addressing controversial topics. One of the well-known propaganda posters was “We Can Do It”, with Rosie the Riveter. Rosie the Riveter was a strong and competent factory worker in jeans and a bandanna and urged women to fill jobs that men had to leave for the war (Olsen).
The most reliable document to understand the Middle Passage is document c which was the account of a slave ship doctor named Alexander Falconbridge in 1788 of the Slave Trade of Coast of Africa. This document is reliable because it is a primary source which is “an artifact, a document, diary, manuscript, autobiography, a recording, or other source of information that was created at the time under study”. Besides being a primary source, he was neither a slave owner or a slave, so there wouldn't be much bias towards a group. In his account, he writes about the harsh conditions he witnessed such as slaves being cuffed and held so closely to each other that they could only lie on their sides, buckets for feces, buckets for water, and tubs for food. These conditions lead to diseases such as flux to be spread easily.
This historical document was written by Private John G. Burnett. Burnett’s diary entry was written on December 11, 1890. The years of the diary were during his journey through the Trail of Tears between 1828 and 1839. Burnett was a reserved person who was just fine with being by himself for weeks at a time. As he hunted more and more, he became acquainted with many of the Cherokee Indians who grew to eventually become his friends.
Finally although i was never professionally an actor, I have learned that my discourse community has taught how to channel my emotions not only in my work and on the stage but in my writing. It has taught me how to use the vocabulary needed to express my ideas and feelings on paper. My discourse community has taught me so many lessons that I will use throughout life, I’m sure I would have no learned them
The word genre comes from the French word for 'class ', (Chandler, 1997). Film genre refers to a specific style or subject matter. A movie may have several different components that may make up a specific genre. Genres makes it easier for the audience, as the categorization of genres lets the audience pick what sort of movie they would like to watch. Film genres give the audience information into the type movie it may be, this in turn helps them to decide whether the movie is suitable for them or not.
As time progresses into the 21st century, so too does the meaning of literacy. With the rise of what is considered ‘new literacies’ such as the Internet, more students are increasingly using the Internet and other electronic technologies such as computers and smartphones to engage in and access various new age prints, and visual and digital texts, using and modifying language to create context which have been created as new forms of literacy (Tompkins, Campbell and Green, 2012). Blog posting websites, emailing, playing online games and multimodal stories all require different genres of language in order to convey meaning, which has had an influence of the changing social view of language, which can be seen embedded in the
In Scott Russell Sanders’ essay “The Inheritance of Tools”, Sanders explores the relationship that he had with his father. Concrete objects like the wooden tools that he inherits from his father provide the basis for the reflections on his relationship with his father. He manages to indicate his attitude very early on in the essay using both features of style and rhetorical strategies. The author establishes his love for his father and sadness at his passing by narrating an anecdotal story involving his hammer, word choice that conveys his sadness, and strong use of imagery.

Question Discuss Toolan’s view that storytelling is a ‘core human activity’ which is directly connected to the ‘making and remaking of our identity and our relationships’ (2006, p. 76 & p. 54).
