In addition to the quote from 2016, John Steinbeck in Travels with Charley-published in 1960- recognized that loss of nature plagued America in the 1960s. Today, America is still dealing with the problem of loss of nature. Humans are losing touch with nature and resorting to a safe and plastic life. When Steinbeck stops at a Hotel in Bangor, Maine he says, “It was immaculate; everything was done in plastics-the floors, the curtain, table tops of stainless burnless plastic, lamp shades of plastic.” Steinbeck shows his disgust over the boring room. He also mentions how everyone was protecting him and it was horrible. We're losing touch with natural, but we're improving our lifestyle with new technology.
