Trayvon Martin the Second Emmett Till Trayvon Martin’s death was a tragedy. Emmett Till’s death was a tragedy. These deaths have similarities to the extreme. The biggest difference is the 56 years which separate them. Both of these incidents revealed darknesses inside of our great country. These darknesses have been long hidden and need to be brought to light just as they did in 1956. Trayvon Martin is the next Emmett Till and should be seen as such. Emmett Till’s death was seen as a symbol. Emmett Till’s death was one of the main symbols of the civil rights movement that followed his killing. He was a boy from the north in the deep south where things were not the same. Had he been from the south his death would have been buried and not heard of but that was not the case. Trayvon was also a boy murder for wrongdoings he didn't even know of nor did he have any part in. She took to the television screens across America to tell the story of her sweet 14 year old son who was visiting family down in Mississippi and did wrong that he didn't know of leading to his brutal murder. This led to a trial of the two men who killed Emmett. With a jury of the peers meaning all white males they were acquitted and got off not guilty. This caused an absolute uproar among the black people of America. A booming civil rights movement was started by Emmett’s mother taking to media to guarantee his death was seen by the people of America.
