Trees are a substantial factor of how people survive. Pollution is disturbing the clean air we need to breathe and making people sick. The amount of garbage laying around on the side of the road is ridiculous. All over the world people are littering, polluting, and destroying the Earth. It has been happening since as far as dates go back to. People take advantage of the clean water, the trees, the clean air and everything the Earth provides for us, everywhere, not realizing how much it could lead up to in the future. William Golding shows this in his novel, Lord of the Flies, when he has the characters leave an immense impact on the nature of the island.

When they realized they were going to be stuck on the island for a while, they realized they would need food. The first thing they saw was the fruit trees and they thought it would be good for them to eat the fruit. Also, it would give some of them jobs to collect the food and take the trees down. “Then amid the roar of bees in the afternoon sunlight Simon found for the littluns the fruit they couldn’t reach… (38).” This shows how they took the fruit and as well how it gave the younger something to do. The boys all thought it would be a good idea to take the fruit and cut the trees down for shelter. However they later realized that eating all the fruit would make them sick. Also at the end they ended up realizing the damage they did by taking all the trees down and how bad they ruined the island.
