In South Africa it is very common for children to grow up without a father as a role model to teach them skills. Trevor Noah however demonstrates the skills of a portrait of a graduate traits without this role model. When Trevor was growing up he needed to be a communicator, and a collaborator to survive in South Africa. He showed how he possessed these traits and how they worked together to help him throughout the book. “I became a chameleon. My color didn't change, but I could change your perception of my color. This is a trait of a communicator because it shows how his use of language and communication can make it so that people feel like he belongs with them even if he is different. “In society, we do horrible things to one another because we don’t see the person it affects. We don’t see their face. We don’t see them as people.” (Noah 221). Trevor has an understanding of how most of the people where he is from do not show the collaborator trait. Trevor knows what he wants and when he is set on something he will succeed even if he fails at first. When he does this he uses his brain and does it in creative ways and uses his critical thinking skills to get out of sticky situations. “Lady, are you not listening to me? This is my mother’s life. This is her life. Take the money. Take all of it. I don’t care.” (Noah 278). Trevor shows how he knows what he wants and no matter what he is being told he is going to get what he wants especially to protect his family. When Trevor knew that he wanted to save his mothers life he was willing to pay any amount of money and even put himself into debt for the rest of his life. When he knew he was set on that and his goal was to get the woman to take his card for payment. His mom most likely gave him this trait in the first place like the way she was about church. His mom always made him go to church no matter what. If their car broke down they had to take public transportation and put themselves into dangerous situations because his mom said god would protect them and make things work out. The one thing that was always consistent was church since she was always goal driven in that way. Because of that you can assume Trevor learned to be goal driven from his mom. “Don't fight the system, mock the system.” (Noah 252).
