The concept of Trifles that I wanted to explore was this feeling of being trapped. Because I wanted to do being trapped as my concept I knew from the start that I wouldn't need very many set pieces because they would clutter and distract people from the message that I was trying to display through my set. So I decided to go with the bare necessities that this show needed to function. I wanted to explore an environment in which someone is trapped because the character mrs. Wright has been trapped for a very long time in a marriage that has gone far past South. so I wanted to create an environment that would replicate that feeling the feeling of being trapped. I wanted the kitchen to look like a bird cage because during this time period everything the light touched belonged to man except the kitchen that was a woman's place. That also gave me fuel to make the kitchen look more like a bird cage because not only has mrs. Wright's husband trapped her in this cage but Society has also trapped her in a cage along with every other woman during this time period. As far as the color scheme, the wallpaper brings the bird cage feeling to life it changes from light to dark for a very specific reason. I have it darker in the middle because although it is the the 20th century arranged marriages ended a while ago so mrs. Wright chose to be with mr. Wright, at some point she did love him. So I had it darker in the middle to show that all this pain this turmoil and the bad stuff it wasn't some foreign attack, it didn't come from Behind Enemy Lines it came from inside the camp from a more domestic place. As the set starts to expand and we get further away from the middle the colors start change from darker blacks and grays to blues and deep purples to push home the fact that although things have changed because of mr. Wright's death mrs. Wright is still very sad and heartbroken some might even say
