There are many similarities and differences incorporated in West Africa’s and Southeast Asia’s patterns of interaction with Eurasian trade routes. In comparison, both used the silk road as a method of trade and commercial interaction, which let to both continents being able to assimilate the factors of gaining new resources and customs; second they both took advantage of the use of water for travel and this led through many Eurasian routes in order for them to culturally diffuse. However, Southeast Asian’s from the interaction of the Eurasian routes, was mainly or religious purposes; meanwhile Africa used the routes for profit through slave trade. The role of trading and commercial selling was a big deal in the interaction aspect of the Eurasian trade routes. And one main similarity between Southeast Asia and West Africa is the method of gaining new resources from either direction of the trade routes.
Great Britain not only had colonies in the western hemisphere and the America’s, in fact they had colonies all over the world. One of the most important of these was India. In the 16th century, European continue to arrive in Africa. Castle was built along the coast of West Africa by seven European nations. The Europeans discovered the wealth in Africa such as plantation and mining. To achieve their goals and to maximize their profits, the Europeans used slave labor. They were unable to use slave labor in Europe so therefore they turned to Africa.
There are multiple examples of major changes in Africa that I could talk about for this exam. But being that I only need a few pages, I will focus on, for this exam, rise and end of the Malinke Empire and Songhay, the religious influences throughout Ethiopia, trading towns in the east of Africa, and most of the Iron Age societies. The examples of change will display how towns and kingdoms would come and go, the people settling there, or development of new productions and technology. Homer, a Greek poet who is assumed to have lived around 12 - 8th century BC wrote two epics (poems) about the Trojan War, and what happened in the destruction and aftermath. His two poems had an enormous impact on Western Civilization, which is ironic, considering how little is known about their author.
The goal of the 415 BCE play, The Trojan Women was to discourage war in the ancient Mediterranean world. The play showed the hardships that came with war in an attempt to end violent conflict. The same can be said about the 1971 film. The cinematized version of the play was released amidst the peak of Vietnam protest and aimed to show, yet again, the consequences of war. The film is one of the more interesting war films because its main characters are not the soldiers, but the people affected by the loss that war brought them.
Troy is seen as a tragic figure because he is seen in the play as this type of character. Troy as a young child lead himself to his own destruction or “fall.” Troy did not willingly cause himself to fall, but as a young kid he was just trying to pursue his dreams of playing baseball in the big leagues. As a kid Troy did not have his parents there to help guide him to the best decisions possible for his future. Later Cory, Troys son, is entered into the play talking about playing football and possibly taking it to the big leagues.
In Homer’s epic poem The Iliad, Homer describes nine days of the Trojan War, focusing on Achille’s anger. Achilles, the best Greek warrior, becomes furious at the Greek commander Agamemnon due to a power struggle. Achilles decides not to fight, with the Greeks fighting the Trojans without their best warrior. Both sides battle gruesomely, with Homer often using literary devices to develop the brutality of war.
This relates to the modern-day because the united states government does it with certain people that their need dead. Another fact about the trojan war that turned out to be true is that Ithaca is a real place, it was discovered by Greek archaeologists.
