There are many ways why some species are endangered for instance, trophy hunting or poaching. Poaching is the act of illegally killing or hunting an animal. “As recently as ten years ago, out of every ten African elephants that died, four fell at the hands of poachers. A $350,000 permit was sold to hunt a large rare black rhino. Trophy hunting is still legal because the government is making money by selling permits to hunt these animals. I believe that if the government is worried about getting there money from having these animals why don’t they open up safaris so people can see how important these animals are and have tourists pay to go on these safaris instead of having people pay to kill them. Eventually the government isn’t going to get their money from killing animals if there are no more animals to kill. If the African countries or other surrounding countries need money for their country, why don’t the tourists that are going to spend the money to kill the animals, donate their money to the country to protect the animals that way the country is still getting some source of income for these animals. This option will also open up jobs in the community. In the case with Cecil the lion, he was being monitored by officials but the hunter placed bait outside his monitored area which made him leave his territory which is where he was shot. If they had better ways to protect these animals maybe this wouldn’t have happened. IFAW and Wildlife Trust of India have been working for years to rescue orphaned elephants and rhinos and release them in Manas National Park.
