Through December 1777 to June 1778, George Washington led the Continental Army through winter camp. The Continental Army was an army of Patriot soldiers who fought against Britain. The Patriots hated Britain for their taxes and laws. So they went off to war. There was just one problem, they did not know how bad the conditions were going to be.
Thomas Harris, an American writer of suspense, said: “Nothing makes us more vulnerable than loneliness, except greed.” He is best known for a series of novels about his character, Hannibal Lecter. Even though the two authors Harris and Homer both come from different time periods, Harris being modern and Homer not, the shared human experience connects them. Odysseus and Achilles are so distracted by greed and fame that they are willing to risk everything for it such as Odysseus’s life and the life of his crew, and Achilles dying in Troy. In the movie “Troy”, the main character Achilles travels to Troy with the rest of the Greek army to fight to gain control of Troy and meets many challenges throughout the battle.
The Ancient Greeks were affected in many ways by the things around and in the country called Greece. The geography of the land has had a great influence on Greece and the inhabitants. Throughout the history of Greece, there came more effects to the people who lived there. Some of these effects on the Ancient Greek civilization were positive and some were negative. Most of these effects were beneficial to the Greeks.
This book has given me a greater understanding on the Classics as a whole. The book touches on a plethora of classical topics in chapter 2, and often compares the western civilization to our west. The author also gave me better understanding of the time periods. I didn’t know slaves had better treatment than the free people in Persia at the time, or that war was an enormous role in Classics age. From the western civilization class I’ve took earlier this year, this books discuss the importance of money in a war, when Sparta beat Athens, or when Rome beat the Carthaginians because of the new money they received to build ships.

Being in the snow isn’t always fun. It is January 1, 1778 and I have been serving my term at Valley Forge. I have been very miserable which has made my experience here dreadful. I’ve finished my time as a soldier but I have the option to re-enlist or come back home.
The winter here in valley forge is quite harsh. There is severe wind and lots of cold,heavy snow, and many of the men here don 't have enough shirts, shoes, and stockings. At least half the army here are unable to fight due to lack of clothes. During the night, these men are forced to stay warm besides a fire or else they will most definitely freeze to death. Often we can track a soldier 's path by their bloody footprints they leave from walking barefoot in the snow.

In addition, it made approximately $497 million worldwide. It was one of the most successful films ever made. However, the content that was in the movie brought some speculation into whether or not the events of the movie were historically accurate. The purpose of this essay is to answer the question of how accurate the Hollywood movie, Troy, really was and whether it portrayed Homer’s tragic, charming side of the story or the predicted historical side.

In the Trojan War, the Greeks devised a deceitful plan to enter the city of Troy. They constructed a large wooden horse that would contain Greek soldiers inside of it. Majority of the Greek army abandoned their camps outside of Troy and sailed to a nearby island to illude that they surrendered. Just as the Greeks hoped, the Trojans accepted the wooden horse into the city as a surrender gift. Next, at nightfall, the Greeks “inside [left] their wooden prison and [opened] the city gates to the Army, which [had] sailed back, and [were] waiting before the wall.”

In the epic poem, the Iliad written by Homer, several characters taking part in the warfare between the Achaeans and the Trojans are portrayed as embodying the heroic code of courage, physical strength, leadership, arete of value of honour, and the acceptance of fate. The heroic code is illustrated by the actions of the Trojan prince, Hector and the Achaeans strongest warrior, Achilles. Both of these characters display the Greek’s image of a hero, and can also let the reader discern what the society admires, looks up to and aspires to in its heroes. There are also characters who fail to be heroic, such as the Trojan “vivid and beautiful” prince, Paris. These characters in the Iliad illustrate the qualities that Ancient Greek society values.
