Throughout life, there are many different aphorisms that you should follow. In Tuesday’s with Morrie, the idea of relationships is very important and it is the most important aphorism that you can follow. As Morrie was a very connected man with friends and family around him, he never felt the need for attention. Family alone is able to influence and improve the way that you live everyday. This is because “ There is no foundation, no secure ground, upon which people may stand today if it isn’t the family.” (91). As Morrie explains it, the foundation of someone's life is their family. This is due to the fact that everything builds up from family. Your family is the one that carries you and builds you up from the moment you are born. The relationship with your family is a very important one. If you do not get along from a young age, many of your values, beliefs and behaviors can change. This affects the way that you function for the rest of your life. You attitude is also affected from your relationships. When it comes to family, many people have a worse day if they had an arguement with their family. It is the same with friends and almost any relationship. Therefore, relationships are extremely important as they impact our moods and attitudes. Those moods can help us make “incorrect” decisions that might harm us later on in life. Through Morrie’s teachings, we can make the best of relationships by “[not] clinging to things, because everything is impermanent.” (103).
