Changes: Somewhere, Somehow, Something Went Wrong The current state of social affairs for Black men in America are highly reminiscent of Tupac’s song Changes in that somewhere, somehow, something has fallen out of kilter within our society, that was founded on justice, giving us the volatile experiences of Black men today. Recently, the city of Ferguson has become much more than just a place in Missouri due to the 2014 murder of Michael Brown, a recent high school graduate who was fatally shot by Officer Darren Wilson. Initially, there were riots, and marches, and protests denouncing the continuous killings on Black males by White cops. I was personally intrigued by the outcry over the injustices, but I readily criticized the movement for not equally addressing violence between Black males too. A Black life taken is a Black life taken no matter who pulls the trigger. Tupac also called attention to this violence in his song that was released, ironically, after he was gunned down. Socrates believed that the auxiliary and guardians should be able to distinguish friend from foe. Aristotle took up this very topic in his prose as well.
