In World War 1 (WW1), many events caused the outcome of the war, but one event stood out from the rest. Americas entry and contribution to the war was a major turning point that affected both the Allied and the Germans and lead to the Allies winning the war. The Library of Congress – highly reliable secondary source - stated that when the war started (July 28th, 1914), America decided then that they would remain neutral to all sides. Enotes, 2013 – highly reliable secondary source – says that the arrival of the American soldiers was the turning point that put the war to the Allied favour. Since the Russians had quit the war, the Germans were able to move their troops to the stalemate on the western front. The fresh and well equipped American soldiers were able to counter this and push them back (US History). America brought needed food, fresh soldiers, fuel, and military equipment. Source 1 continues that Wilson wanted to create an organisation that would hopefully help prevent future wars. On June 8th, 1918 Wilson presented to Congress his outline of “fourteen points” that were required for peace. These 14 points served as a discussion point for some of the final terms. All sides then came up with the final Treaty of Versailles that was signed by every nation except for America because it was rejected from senate twice. The war ended on November 11th, 1918 and America signed a separate treaty with Germany, Austria and Hungary on August 24-29th, 1921 (Library of Congress), proving yet again that the US intervention and presence made a huge impact on the conclusion of
