For as long as history has been recorded there has been people betraying others that trusted them. Even in the Old Testament, there are examples of betrayal. In Genesis, Cain kills his brother Abel because he was envious that God looked upon him with favor. Another example is in Exodus when the Israelites betrayed God because they wanted even more than what He had promised them. It can be seen that people betray because of greed and jealousy.
