It all began three years ago when my tribe, the Mbiano tribe, gave me as an offering to the Umuofia tribe. A woman was murdered in our village, thus my tribe had to give compensation to the Umuofia tribe, and I was chosen as compensation. When I arrived, it was decided by elders that I was to live with a man named Okonkwo and his family.I overheard that Okonkwo was chosen as my caretaker because he was highly revered in the Umuofia tribe for his work. Therefore, Okonkwo had to bring a message of war unless my tribe gave a virgin and myself. In the beginning of my stay, I was shy and intimidated by Okonkwo. I demanded to be returned back to my tribe, and I refused to eat until that demand was meant. I was soon challenged and threatened by Okonkwo. One evening, I was inside of Okonkwo’s and his families home. I heard loud footsteps coming from outside and they increased in sound as time went on. Okonkwo barged in the room and looked at me in the eyes. He must have found out that I have not been eating until my demand was met. Okonkwo was holding a large, edged stick. Okonkwo approached me and commanded that I must eat right now. I got up, obtained some yams, and ate. As I ate the yams, I trembled in fear as he loomed over me. After Okonkwo left the home, I began to feel sick and lightheaded. I stumbled outside to the back of Okonkwo’s hut. Then, the yams began to explode out of my mouth onto the dry, orange dirt. I do not know if it was due to the fear Okonkwo created by staring at me in such a hostile manner, or if it was just due to the fact my body was not in the best condition. Unsuspectedly, something dramatic occurred. As I began to finish vomiting up the last of the yams, I began to feel something I have never felt in a long time.
