"Our pursuit of affluence may ultimately damage us as much as it damages the world...The cost of unbridled capitalism is paid not only by the poor, it is paid by the spiritual lives of any rich person who ignores the cry of the poor." This quote means that we should not have an obsession to pursue wealth. This pursuit not only negatively affects those who are poor, but it affects our mind and conscience as well. If we try to be at the top, we will have to push others out of the way to get there. When the majority of the wealth is in a small number of hands, those who have the least are oppressed the most. They are an eyeglass company that owns almost all of the eyeglass industry. They purchased numerous eyeglass companies and spiked the prices in the process. It owns Lenscrafters, Pearle Vision, Ray-Ban, Oakley, Sears and Target Optical, as well as the largest eye care coverage plan. They use a practice called vertical integration to control every stage of the glasses process, from making and selling the glasses to insuring those who need glasses. With a near monopoly, they raised prices at their will. Their founder has stated: "Anything is worth what people are willing to pay for". There are many people in the world, even in the US, who are poor. They do not have the financial means to help themselves. The US government has programs designed to help the poor, but it is far from enough. However, individual people are more generous. A lot of people will give money to the poor, and most people, especially in America, have some sort of cause that they fight for and give money to, such as Make-A-Wish or the Salvation Army. Many charities exist that are designed to help all those in need. That being said, there is still a good amount of greed and self-interest in the
