(BS-2)Many who have PTSD will change from who they are to a new person and shut others out of their life to get over their past and get over a traumatizing event.(BS-3)PTSD gives Nusrat, Najmah and anyone else who has the disorder depression that may cause them to change their lifestyle and to be unconcentrated on what is important for their own health and safety. (STEWE-1)In the book, Najmah says”Khalida gives me some bread, which I refuse.’You must eat,’ she says” (Staples 86). Najmah is refusing her basic needs after the death of her loved ones because she was so traumatized that she is unable to realize she needs bread. She has this problem due to depression and this could cause her to put herself in more harm.(STEWE-2) If PTSD is not caught early on, it can change and disrupt their life (“Post-traumatic Stress”). By disrupting their life, they are not focused on things they need to do, and this prevents people affected by PTSD to do everyday things. (SIP-B) The characters go through depression, and are unaware of their surroundings causing them to make bad decisions after being traumatized. (STEWE-1)Najmah says"I sit in the dirt beside them quietly, not crying, not thinking, not even aware that I am breathing" (Staples 83). She does not know what is going on in this moment, she is in a dangerous situation but is too shocked by the fact that her mother and brother have just died that she is sitting down mourning instead of running away from the bombs which is putting herself in danger.(STEWE-2)Najmah says“I do not run or try to hide. I don’t care whether the Taliban find me and kill me”(Staples 83). Najmah is clearly depressed and not trying to save herself when she knows about how she could be killed, she is putting herself in serious danger which could lead to a conflict of her being taken by Taliban. (CS) Najmah and Nusrat experience depression triggered by
