The term six research theory course, NURS 495, emphasized the importance of nurse leadership and how nurses can influence positive changes in health care delivery to patients with chronic illness. It also explored the contradictions that exist in nursing practice and encouraged the students to develop a critical and pragmatic approach to client care. The co-requisite clinical course, NURS 499, integrated nursing theory and current best practice on an acute care nursing unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. In this consolidated learning analysis, I will explore a nursing practice event that will illustrate the major issues surrounding the treatment of competing mental health comorbidities in a patient with hoarding behaviors.

Australia’s current treatment of Asylum seekers includes taking them from an already extremely stressful environment and detaining them in remote detention facilities where they have limited interaction with family and friends. In the narrative Hope Meadows, Wes Smith vividly and compellingly documents a pioneering project conceived by Brenda Eheart, a sociologist and visionary. Brenda Eheart became disheartened by the state of child welfare and got tired of seeing so many families involved in the foster care system broken apart because of lack of help and support from the community. Overview of Attachment Theory Attachment theory tries to describe the evolution of personality and behaviour in relationships and it gives a reason for the difference in a person’s emotional and relationship attitudes. In the beginning, it looked at the mechanics of relationships between children and their parents but it has since been expanded to cover the entire life of the human being (Howe, 2000). Attachment theory includes insights learned from evolutionary theory, ethology, systems theory and developmental psychology (Howe, 2001).

A dismissive/ avoidant adult is often uncomfortable with closeness, and has difficulty trusting others. They like to feel independent, self-sufficient and have an inability recalling details about their childhood. A preoccupied/ anxious adult has insecurities in relationships and often craves intimacy and closeness. Lastly, fearfully attached adults are characterized as being uncomfortable with intimacy and commitment as a result of memories of previous traumas.
