Unequal Pay for Equal Work

Pay differences between men and women has been around for many years. Women, on average, have earned less than men in almost every occupation out there. According to the Institute for Women's Policy Research, “In 2014, female full-time workers made only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 21 percent.” This is unfair to all the women who have worked hard, are equally educated, trained, and have the same experience as men, but are not getting paid equally. This issue has been around for centuries and has given women the role of being the caretaker of the home and taking care of the children while men are said to be the ones who are providing all the hard work. However, there has also been many historical events that have occurred to help change this , like the Equal Pay Act. I believe that the contributions that women have made to the work force has been overlooked. This may be because many men choose to overlook these contributions, but that still does not mean they are not there. It has been said that women are not good at doing “male” jobs. However, women have proved that they can work and have these jobs and still have a great positive effect on the economy.

Another thing is that many people forget that women do not need to work. Women are able to fully take care and support their families without having to work everyday. Yet, women still choose to work hard and put all their effort into it even if their work is dangerous, to help support our country. Women also have to have time to raise their kids and take care of the family and they still find time to work on top of that. I think that if women are going to put all their effort into doing all these things and succeeding, they should get the same amount of pay that men
