Over the years, many things have changed, the thing I noticed that changed the most is the United Kennel Club also known as the UKC. If you don’t know anything about UKC take a few minutes, and read this paper. UKC has been around for over 100 years. Over that time, many things have been added and changed. My family has been involved in UKC since 1915. I’ve been involved in UKC since I was 5 years old. United Kennel Club made a huge impact on my life. It started in February 10th, 1898. Many people owned the organization. Some owners passed away some owners just sold it. Even after many owners the organization is still running strong and still satisfying people that goes to the events. Over the years UKC has grown more than any other organization. It first started off for just coon hunting, but many more events, and breeds were added. UKC started in 1898 as a small organization, but quickly grew and it still is growing today. It was found by Chauncey Zachariah Bennett. Chauncey had an American Pit Bull Terrier, and he was assigned UKC registration number 1. The United Kennel Club originally operated out of the Bennett household. For many years, Bennett maintained outside employment, running UKC on his own time. Eventually it became necessary to separate the office into a section on it’s own and hire office help. DR. Furman, Chauncey Bennett’s son-in-law eventually became president of UKC. He was practicing physician when Frances Bennett married him, and she soon convinced him to start writing articles on purebred dogs. He then moved UKC to a larger location so he could open a practice on the same floor. He then realized he must devote all of his attention to UKC so he gave up his practice and put all of his efforts towards the family business. It was even well structured back in the 1900’s and still to this say it is. UKC is probably one of the stronger organizations that doesn’t sell anything and they still make a profit, they really got something going. UKC has many purposes. It all started with coon hunting, but now it involves about every breed of dog. UKC started the coon hunts, it now has the obedience class for dogs, it also has the hunting retriever club, UKC licensed hunting beagle event, Agility Alliance, the biggest thing is the youth program and hunts they have. UKC also introduced the weight pull for dogs. UKC also introduced the first Point Dog Breed event. First pointing Dog Field Trial.
