In the poem “Glory” the writer Yusef Komunyakaa is trying to explain that everyone can achieve glory. He starts out by saying that “most were married teenagers, working knockout shifts daybreak to sunset six days a week.” When he says this he is stating that not everyone is born into glory but can still experience it. Then he goes on to say. “They were all Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays, a touch of Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige.”

Book Response Essay # 2 of America: Jamestown and Plymouth “Early America was littered with European failures- the Spanish in the Florida, the French at Fort Caroline, and the English at Baffin Island, Roanoke, and Sagadahoc”(Horn, 290). Yet, despite all the pervious disasters, two colonies would begin to find apermanent place on the soil of this New World. James Horn painstakingly chronicled thetribulations
¨Wingfield and Kendall, living in disgrace strengthened themselves with the sailors and other confederates to regain their former credit and authority, or at least such means aboard the pinnace, to alter her course and to go for England.¨ In this essay, we will see that Jamestown and Plymouth are two very different colonies. They live in different places, have different reasons for settling, and probably have many reasons for them to come settle where they decided to settle. And yet, they also have similarities that bring them closer together because they mostly came from the same time of place looking for something. Even though these colonies have similarities and differences, they both still exude qualities that make them unique.
The development of colonies is a long process that has multiple directions in which can be followed. It is impossible to determine what paths will be pursued and what the outcomes will be. In colonial America the colonies were beginning to make their own change and were in the process of creating their identities. There was a struggle, however, in the beginning of the these colonies. The population death rates were impossibly high, starvation was an everyday part of life; these were problematic situations that were obstacles in the formation of the regions.
English colonists were trying to push west, further into the New World. In doing this they went into the Ohio Valley making the French upset because they had already set up trade there. This caused the French to build military strongholds, the biggest being in southwest Pennsylvania, trying to keep the English out. Colonists in Virginia decided to retaliate against the French.
New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled largely of English origin, but by the 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. The difference in development occurred because of different religion beliefs, situations the colony was under, and different political views. Starting a colony wasn’t trouble-free. The settlers struggled with: starvation, lack of clean water, disease, and and indigenous people. Some settlers even disappeared almost completely, with the reasoning being unknown.
England and the colonies held one of the closest bonds the world had ever seen, much like a mother to her child. It seemed like nothing could ever break the bond that the two shared. England was perfect for the colonies, letting them grow in whatever way they wished and virtually live independently. However, the French and Indian War marked a turning point in the utopian relationship, causing tension between England and her child economically, politically, and ideologically. Prior to the French and Indian War, the colonies were pretty self sufficient in the economic realm.

However, north of Mexico, America in 1600 remained largely unexplored and effectively unclaimed by Europeans. England was one of the country which enlarged its power on America during 1600s. Waves of Puritan immigrants arrived in the region of New England, and they started to form a new atmosphere. However, the biggest difference with the Chesapeake region’s inhabitants was that the Puritans didn’t aim primarily for economic benefit or trade.
Thus, although England won the conflict, they would lose their original thirteen colonies. To support his argument, Anderson uses a simple but concise methodology. The book is laid out in a logical manner so that the lay reader can follow the argumentation; the book is not solely
War Without Mercy “Ultimately, it brought about a revolution in racial consciousness throughout the world that continues to the present day.” (Dower 4). During World War II, besides morbid deaths, racism was one of the ultimate factors which sparked this tragic period of time. With the use of propaganda such as cartoons, films, and several other media induced strategies, the extreme hatred between the Americans and Japanese was increasing.

The British colonies in the Chesapeake region and those of the New England region were both similar yet different in certain ways. One because both the colonist that settled there were looking for new opportunities. However, it was mostly second son aristocrats, which means the first born usually inherits the better half of the father’s riches. Their lives in England had either been mistreated or they were unable to flourish economically. Regardless of whether they were searching the land for expansive homesteads, religious freedom, or exchanging and merchant opportunities, the colonist in both regions were searching for another land in the New World.
The American Revolution would soon follow the French-Indian War, and the harmony between the colonies and Britain would go down the drain in the war that shaped
The early Virginia and New England colonies differed politically, socially, and economically due to the situations that the settlers faced. Throughout many of the letters written about some of the experiences of the earlier settlers, one can easily see a major difference in the way of life of the two colonies. Although many of these colonies differed in the way of life, each colony faced some similar things that they each had to overcome. These challenges made a massive difference in the way that each of the colonies started out and directly influenced the future for both colonies. When these challenges are faced, many of the settlers will create the foundations of their political, social, and economic systems.
