In both of these articles by Christine Dell’Amore and Matt Miller, they discuss how these top predators impact the island, why they are they important, and should humans interfere? On the island of Isle Royale, there is a variety of animals that mostly just consume vegetation; therefore, they need wolves to balance out the food chain. But, the island is only accessible during the winter when stable ice bridges are created. Unfortunately, the ice bridges have not been forming due to warmer winters. Leaving a small count of wolves on the island with no new genes to mix in.
Petitions are, in many cases, controversial. They are often signed in protest of things such as unfair pay, civil rights, or unsafe working conditions. Oftentimes the signers of these petitions risk their jobs and their reputations. “Lyddie” by Katherine Paterson is the story of a young girl coming of age in mid nineteenth century New England. Her family is indebted, and eventually Lyddie makes her way to Lowell to start life as a factory girl, leaving behind her younger brother, sisters, and ailing mother, in pursuit of her new job.
The way I think this quote relates to Long Long After School is that Wes,is almost like inspired by Miss Tretheway’s kindness towards him. The section that states, “the things we value” I believe that in the kind doing of Miss Tretheway’s actions, she really touched his life. Although in the text it never stated that he remained kind we can make an inference; since Wes visited her grave, this shows that she had some sort of impact in his life. “We set our goals and make our decisions” I suppose that throughout the years Wes established his goals and decisions on things that are good. So ”the things we value are the things which we set our goals and make our decisions” means, in relation to the text, is that Wes really valued Miss Tretheway
“Slower than the Rest” by Cynthia Rylant is a realistic story about a boy named Leo who is slower than the rest finds a turtle and named it Charlie. In the beginning, Leo and his family are driving in the car and find a turtle by the side of the road. Leo jumps out of the car to get the turtle, and then Leo names the turtle Charlie. Then when Leo gets home he plays with Charlie and they become best friends. Soon, Leo takes Charlie to school for his presentation about wildfires.
When one first reads “The Chase” by Annie Dillard they are enjoying a childhood tale taking place in the heart of the winter where Dillard creates a detailed play by play action of an event that contains a great message while also incorporating different tones that corresponds to the pace of the story. An important aspect to this short story is the theme of never giving up and giving “all or nothing.” The reader can see this theme from the beginning where Dillard talks about her experience of playing football with the guys. “It was all or nothing, if you hesitated in fear you would miss and get hurt” (Dillard 114). Dillard also shows this message through her soft tone in the beginning, “Some boys taught me to play football.
The essay Be Specific by Natalie Goldberg was an essay thats main point to me was respect. Respect is something that every individual deserves. A synopsis of what respect means to me all leads back to the golden rule, treat others as you want to be treated. The example that Natalie used that was the most realistic to me was when she said "Hey, girl, get in line.". Many people in today 's world do not take the time to use names it is always hey you, dude, bro, girl, and so the list goes on; as a result our generation is known for being disrespectful in regards to previous years.
In Susan Griffin’s “Our Secret,” Griffin seems to be trying to give answer to the reasons as to why people, such as herself, grow up into their characters and what past experiences influence the behaviors they exhibit. Her focus seem to be towards the reasons for why people do the negative things. She also continues to explain how everyone contains a secret of their own and that these secrets are commonly masked by a facade and that the way these secrets may be expressed differ from person to person. In attempt to help the readers understand how our past has a huge impact on our future Himmler’s childhood is used as an example. She claims that the current state of everything in existence may have been influence or predestined by the occurrence
We live in a society where ethnic minorities are target for every minimal action and/or crimes, which is a cause to be sentenced up to 50 years in jail. African Americans and Latinos are the ethnic minorities with highest policing crimes. In chapter two of Michelle Alexander’s book, The Lockdown, we are exposed to the different “crimes” that affects African American and Latino minorities. The criminal justice system is a topic discussed in this chapter that argues the inequality that people of color as well as other Americans are exposed to not knowing their rights. Incarceration rates, unreasonable suspicions, and pre-texts used by officers are things that play a huge role in encountering the criminal justice system, which affects the way
Janet Madelbaum, on the other hand, was unable to reach the same privileged status, although her family managed to provide her the same elite education which Janet completed with success equal to Kate's (cf. 22, TEXT??????). After an outstanding critical publication – and several more mediocre ones – receiving tenure at Harvard should have marked the peak of Janet's career. Kate points out that Janet has “accomplished the highest, at least in the world's view, in the academic marketplace” (45). However, the English faculty at Harvard does not welcome her the way she was used from her old university where she had been “one of the boys” (59).
I have to stay on a set schedule so I can keep up with my studies and acquire the good grades that I feel I will need to be able to obtain a job when I graduate. The measurement of my goal will be the record that shows I have taken the classes I need to, maintained passing grades, and earned the number of credits I need to pass all of my classes. “The Chase” is about an adult chasing some kids, but Annie Dillard makes the story transition from throwing snowballs to “wanting the glory to last forever” and how the excitement of life at one moment can affect someone in the future to show that the excitement of life will always be there even when one is no longer a kid. The story starts with a group of friends, imagining how a game of football goes and continues with the encounter of a stranger. From throwing snowballs at his car to him chasing them till they couldn’t run anymore. The whole experience will change the way she looks at adults. “We all spread out banged together some regular snowballs, took aim, and, when the Buick drew near, fired.

If I knew that I would be away from home all day at a marching band competition on Saturday, then I would need to schedule time during the week and Sunday to work on projects or studying for tests. I could no longer procrastinate until the last minute, or I would end up getting only one or two hours of sleep. Keep reminding yourself that you are doing this to make your dreams a reality. If you keep that in mind, you will stay motivated and achieve your goals in less time than you could have
A full-time flexible schedule demonstrates the need and usefulness of time management techniques. It is even more imperative to stay on top of my educational workload and while juggling full-time jobs. The most precious resource is time, and learning to control time is the key to academic success.
