Up in Smoke From Legislation to Litigation in Tobacco Politics by Martha A. Derthick is a book that explains the issue of laws regarding cigarettes and how they should be sold and used. She documented how the government took the issue of smoking and how they dealt with it. Many people have different opinions on the issue of laws about smoking depending on their life style. Even in the government, people have different views on this issue. I look at smoking differently than maybe someone else would. Everyone’s opinion is different. In Up in Smoke, Martha A. Derthick discusses the issue of smoking and tobacco use in the US. To me, a suitable theme for this book would be fight for what you believe is the right course of action. I would say this is the theme because Derthick explains how the government has different views on smoking and tobacco use. Each part of the government fights for what they think is the right thing to do. In my opinion, Martha Derthick was not the biggest fan of smoking and using tobacco on a daily level. In my opinion and If I had a say in the banning of smoking, I would not ban it. No one is forced into smoking. It is a person’s own decision in which they decide to light up that cigarette. I do believe that there should be delegated smoking areas not only in some locations, but mostly everywhere. But having to do with making smoking illegal, I believe smoking should be legal. People who want to smoke will smoke and people who choose not to smoke will not smoke. The person with the cigarette and the lighter makes the final decision. It is that
