As a freshman, I don’t know if this activity has taken place before I arrived, but we (residents of University Villas) have increasingly crossed Chandler Road without the use of a crosswalk. I have seen it happen since the beginning of the semester, but it seems as if it has intensified at a weekly rate. However, since this isn’t a marked pedestrian crossing, motorists won’t be looking out for pedestrians most of the time, and this can definitely cause an accident. Upon closer observation, I have found that there is a notable neglect to University Villas’ accessibility to campus. Pedestrians in this area have no convenient crosswalks, no bus routes, or even easy access for bikes in the sidewalks of Chandler Road. This lack of accessibility is playing a factor in the safety of us residents that walk to main campus. The department of Parking and Transportation should ask permission to the government of Statesboro to implement a crosswalk in front of University Villas.

To be more specific, the stop sign next to the entrance in the eastern part of University Villas. This particular place is appropriate because it is situated in a convenient place for people in the eastern part of University Villas, and to those who come from the middle section. In addition, those who make a left turn from Plant Drive have more time to brake and to react to people in the pedestrian crossing. Also, since it is a three-lane road, there will inevitably be drivers turning into University Villas at this point, so the crosswalk should be on the west side of this particular entrance. As a result, turning drivers will be able to get closer to this entrance, making them able to see any other vehicle coming from inside, and this will help prevent possible
