Kevin Millard writes about fry bread and how that particular dish is exceedingly important to Indigenous peoples. My version of fry bread is caldo de pollo, in english the direct translation is broth of chicken or chicken broth. Caldo de pollo is a traditional hot soup that is both made in my Mexican and Guatemalan backgrounds. The main ingredients include but are definitely not limited to piernas de pollo (chicken legs), elote (corn), papas (potatoes), and vegetales (vegetables). Just like fry bread, there are many different variations of caldo de pollo, the dish itself is always in a constant change.
The play by Lorraine Hansberry , A Raisin In The Sun, utilizes the use of allusions in order to supply the reader with historical background. Allusions create emphasis in the play, this allows the reader to understand and appreciate the text. Within the small details of the play, the use of allusions deepen the contextual support of the text. While reading A Raisin In The Sun, various allusions appear throughout the play. These allusions reference the outside world, but also give emphasis on the importance of the piece of the text references.
The extremely emotional lyrics to this song are obvoiusly about Gwen's split from Gavin Rossdale and show how raw her emotions are right now. Putting her heartache out in song has to be a kind of therapy for Stefani. This song has Gwen talking about how she never thought this would happen and it has to sink in that he is gone. Gwen goes on to talk about how it feels like a dream and tells him to keep the memories.
The song has a more positive take on life. Watsky talks about how all of his hard work will pay off and that he will have time to rest once he has moved on. He accepts that he cannot live forever, so he is going to make the most of it while he is here. The song is about worrying what you can control, and to stop dwelling on situations that are out of your hands. The track incorporates a chorus that really ties in well with the rest of the track.”
In All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury uses vivid description, similes, and symbolism to show the desire to see something you’ve never seen before. The story is about a girl named Margot who comes from Earth, where she saw the sun all the time. Then she moves to planet Venus where the sun comes out every seven years. She tells her school classmates about how she remembers the sun and they start to bully her because they are jealous. The author uses a lot of description, symbolism, and similes to show the desire of the kids to see the sun.
Emotional imagery played a prominent role in the novel "A Thousand Splendid Suns" in a variety of different ways. This allows Hosseini to construct a more affectionate connection with his readers and connect more genuinely with their feelings. This is showcased in several parts of the novel, specifically on the occasion where Nana committed suicide and Mariam felt as if she has no one to go when she was in need of consoling. The guilt that Mariam felt is easily expressed through the novel and can be detected by the reader. A similar case can be assumed for the death of Laila’s family after her house was bombed.
This song is about a man who is telling their lover that only love will free them of their cold heart. This begins with the man asking how it felt to be alone. “When you were young and on your own, how did it feel to be alone?” Young started this song with those lyrics because he wanted the song to have a stronger message. Isolation makes a person’s heart go cold and only love can break that ice.
Language is used everyday in lives. We use it to communicate with each other to show how we feel or think. Comfort can drift away from us if we do not have the ability to communicate with others. Barriers can present themselves when trying to communicate inhibiting language. In the short story Out of All Them Bright Stars by Nancy Kress, she puts an alien in a normal dinner and everyone is uncomfortable with his presence there except his waitress.
In the song Ain’t No Sunshine, Bill Withers sings about how the person he loves is the sunlight in his life, but when she’s not there, he is cold and depressed. In my version of Romeo and Juliet, this song would be playing in the background
However Ludacris only uses a few poetic devices, they enhance the tone of the song. People who listen carefully or read the lyrics to this song realizes that he is displaying a very serious story of three young girls facing hardship and their struggle to survive. These girls are fed up with the life they are forced to live and feel as if the only solution is to runaway. The ton of “Runaway Love”, is melancholy and dark, an opens eye’s to a problem that most people try to ignore. These girls should be enjoying their childhood but instead they are taking on the roles of an adult.
In life we can all relate to the feeling of longing for something. In All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury’s characters’ lives are clouded with rain and the only see the sun once every seven years. Bradbury uses metaphors, emotions, and repetition to express the sun’s meaning of hope to the main character, Margot, and the children of rocket men and women on Venus. Metaphors and emotions are used to help the reader relate to the connection with the sun. He describes the sun and the rain using metaphors, and uses the children’s emotions to help further the idea.
People come and go in life, but eventually, everyone will find the one that stays and makes them happy. The country song “Sun to Me,” by Zach Bryan is about a speaker who has found someone that brings out the best in them, and makes them a happier person. In the first stanza, the writer introduces that the speaker has found someone that is like the sun to them and brings out the best in them. In the second stanza through the rest of the poem, the speaker continues to emphasize how important the person that he found was to them, and how they make the speaker a better person. In “Sun to Me,” Zach Bryan uses alliteration and metaphors to teach listeners that having someone that brings out the best in them is very beneficial, and everyone can find someone as long as they look hard enough.
This song shows a young girl who is portrayed as having a dorky nerdy look. Also, it shows a girl that is opposite of her, who is a pretty brunette known by the highschool kids. The “nerdy” girl is in love with a football player, who she believes will never have a chance with, because he is with another girl. “Taylor swift” has a crush on a boy who is blind to see that she really loved her and not the girl he is with who is portrayed as a “popular” Brunette. This is an important aspect to Taylor Swift because she is known to sing love stories that she hears about or experience herself.
Finally, Cole talks about how he’s going to make something out of himself even though he grew up living a struggling lifestyle. “Love Yourz” is one of the songs I can relate to because the lyrics show that no matter how messed up your life is, you should learn to love the life you have. “Love Yourz” made me realize that there will always be someone there to support my decisions and accept the person I am, and who I am to become Even though I cannot relate to having the status of a successful rapper, it is important to reflect on the ideas that J Cole emphasizes on. The hook (“No such thing as a life that’s better than yours”) sums up the whole idea of the song.
Half of a Yellow Sun shows the trauma of memory on two different levels: on both the level of the author, and on the level of the narrative (De Mey 34). Adichie, the author, did not experience the war herself, but rather inherited the traumatic memory of her parents and grandparents, allowing her to write this novel as her interpretation of their past (De Mey 34). This essay will focus on the second level, through the narrative, and specifically on how the characters of Olanna and Ugwu’s reactions to their experiences of war. In the narrated story, these are the characters who encounter the bulk of the traumatic experiences within the novel. This essay will initially contextualise a quote from the novel, relating to the theme of the embodiment of memory and will then deal with the theory of narrative therapy.
