For this assignment, I will be talking about 3 of my personal strengths provided by the VIA Personality Assessment. These include “Judgment”, “Love”, and “Appreciation of Beauty/Excellence”. In this paper, I will also give a brief example of how these character strengths are being used in the workplace based on the VIA research findings. The VIA Assessment showed that my top personality trait was “Judgment”. According to the website, “Judgment” means thinking things through and examining them from all sides; not just jumping to conclusions (Peterson et al., 2009). I was not surprised to find out that this was my top trait due to the fact that I more than often find myself thinking carefully before carrying out a decision. I use this little system every day to make decisions related to school, my relationships, daily routines, or even in planning for the future. I believe that if you think about the possible consequences of your actions before going through with them, you can reduce your chances of making regrettable decisions. As stated by the authors, “Love” is valuing close relations with others or being close to people (Peterson et al., 2009). I was surprised that “Love” was such a high character trait on my list. Although I extremely value the close relationships I have with the people in my life, I’m not the easiest person to form relationships with. I can be very anti-social and I do not seem to be approachable by new people. I, along with many others, experience this strength by being close to those such as family or close life-long friends. The research findings suggest that “Love” is one of the lowest strengths used in the workplace (Money et al., 2008).
