Claudia Kolker’s book “The Immigrant Advantage” (Oct 2011) is a book that touched on the advantages of immigrants coming to the U.S. bringing along their customs, religions, teachings, and traditions. Kolker wants to inform readers that there are good things that come from immigrants like food, fashion, vocabulary, and customs. Kolker points out in her book that there is many ways that immigrants benefit to succeed from others in everyday life. For Example, “The Vietnamese Money Club” (Kolker 19) it is said that to start a money club you need people that you trust from 3-6 people at the least. They all need to pitch in a certain amount of money aside and who turn it is first they get all the money.
In Robert Bryce’s article “The Dangerous Delusions of Energy Independence” he explains the depths of America’s delusional perception of energy independence and asserts his evident disapproval of the subject. He begins by mentioning past presidents and their verbal concerns of an upcoming energy crisis leading into the similar views held by America’s majority. The fact that energy independence will make America self-sufficient, create new jobs, keep U.S. soldiers out of the Persian Gulf, and result in a thriving economy has become a generally accepted attitude. Bryce claims that this attitude has escalated since the attacks of September 11th due to the numerous news stories proposing that “buying oil from the countries of the Persian Gulf

First euphoria, when moving to a new culture it is that new and exciting feeling, one might not understand the shock soon to come with this new change. They just feel that overwhelming sense of excitement, they are ready experience this place and all it has to offer. I can imagine for many that euphoria never really lasts long before the overwhelming sense of judgment and lost come through. No two places are ever the same and with moving across cultures comes the change in cultural and social norms.
Some may that geographical affects identity more since that the place you lives influenced your way of thinking of what the environment wants you to believe in than what you want to believe in. In Tehran, Iran six young Iranian men and women were dancing to the western song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams soon after to be arrested. Ruled by an religious leader, western things is considered an taboo. It causes Iranians to be controlled that these things are wrong, and shouldn't be done in the public eyes. Everything seems perfect like that, however, geographical location lumps everyone in a haystack; making it seems that everyone has the same problem; everyone in that area are going through the same problems: family, money, food, and bills plus
In my town, Scarsdale, NY never really provides a way to experience diversity. It's a monocultural town which consist of predominately white-jewish kids. This makes me cherish the opportunities that I do have to meet new different people, and experience other cultures. This is one of the main reasons I want to switch coasts of the US. The fact that there is such a cultural discrepancy between the east coast and the west coast is something that is really exciting to me.
The example I used in my post was about where I am from and how everyone tries to contribute. If someone is hungry, they will ask them if they want food, they try to work as a team and never think they are better than someone else. Also, the atmosphere is much calmer, everyone is not rushed to do things, unlike in Las Vegas where everything is fast-paced. I feel like living in Las Vegas, not everyone is a close group. There are those who help others, but from what I have seen it’s the “ let the best man win” type of attitude.
Here I was at this community event thinking I would be getting a true cultural experience, and instead I was at a red neon light Asian Super Buffet. The worst realization was that these people were mostly part of my own demographic, and that I was not an outsider, I was a consumer. At this point I felt as if I could have gone to You-Like buffet, and had my experience be the same: Two crab rangoons, stir fry and egg flower soup, the only interaction with culture would be language

But, living in a multicultural city is by itself a very beneficial exercise not only on a personal level but also in terms of cultural exchange, economic exchange and generating new ideas. One experiences what is called cultural variety when living in a diverse area. He is somehow introduced to new kinds of foods, architectures, arts, music, festivals, religions, mythologies, writings and more of general day-to-day life. These new things would easily open one’s heart and mind to new places, new ideas and new people. According to (Wolfstone, 2010) nowadays all people around the world happily go out and eat Chinese food, use Japanese technology, drive German
