Social Justice Behind the Veil of Ignorance The person’s lack of concrete knowledge of his right and liberal position in the society leads him into the depth of “veil of ignorance”. Veil of ignorance as termed in John Rawls Theory of Justice, is the veil that covers the eyes of the people and actualizes their blindness to see all the facts they have about themselves that forbids them to fashion principles and standards to their own advantage. In the movie it can be seen that the city of God is consists of the poor people being isolated from a good life and right security. Poverty prevails in the city of God and in fact poverty has weakened all the social structures in this city, involving the family. There is no social justice that can be seen. Killing, violence and danger are so rampant and thus have become customary because of the absence of law and the streets are ruled by violent gangs. These gangs who think of themselves as masters and leaders are the ones who provided the structure and status of the city of God. Life here has no value. They kill anyone they think are hindrance to their plans and they act as nemesis for all the activities in the society. The gang death rate is towering that surprisingly even the gang leaders are so young. Even the young ones who are supposed to be in school get involved in the gang activities. Though the gang leaders have money and guns from selling drugs and committing robberies they are not so rich because their business is only limited inside the city of God, in this city where nobody owns so much money. John Rawls maxim of theory is visible where the people here, especially the young ones are behind the veil of ignorance.
