I will be applying a Jungian psychological interpretation of Parade by Abraham Rattner. Parade is a piece of art depicting a civil rights march, presumably led by Martin Luther King Jr. Immediately, the painting portrays the rebel archetype. For example, people are holding up signs saying things such as, "We want peace. " The goal of the rebel is to overturn what is not working; MLK Jr. was protesting racial inequality.
It was the last inning in our all-star game, and we were losing 10 to 8. Our team had 2 outs and we couldn’t get the third. Our pitcher was doing bad, throwing all balls, while all of us in the field were tired, ready to fall asleep at any moment. There goes another walk. They score again.

Seeing the word “linguist” was a bit intimidating, I must admit. However, the author was able to incorporate the historical past with the present day in a refreshing way. In this example alone, there are cultural, historical and political aspects that
Wong Tai-Sen Taoism Center is a Chinese temple for thousands of Buddhist pilgrims across California. I enjoy going to the temple on every Chinese new year’s eve. Located in the center of Monterey Park, Wont Tai-Sen Temple, in the distance, reveals its mystical cosmological laws which is believed to control the working of the universe and the harmony between “heaven” and earth. As I drive toward the gates, I am mentally ready for such a huge Chinese new year ceremony and some very unique feelings of serenity and purity Wong Tai Sen can offer. New year’s eve is just a few minutes shy while I am still in line waiting to get into the temple.
Monologue of an Outsider (Running on stage) I’m finally home. (Taking off backpack) I don’t want to ever go back to school again. I wish I never moved to Canada.
Have you ever wondered what language is or meant to you? Language can mean many things such as where it comes from if you speak more than one language or it can also mean a voice of power. In this essay I'm going to be talking about how this plays a big part in our day to day life. In the article “Homemade Education” excerpt from the Autobiography of Malcolm X talks about who he is and what language meant to him. Also another article is “Martin Luther King Jr. biography” gives his perspective on the power of language and how it helped him become who he was as a leader.
Flashback to my junior year. I sat quietly in my AP Lang class as my teacher, Mrs. Fisher, announced that the reading competition between the language arts classes called for the book count for September. She stood at the board, marker in hand, staring out expectantly at her large class. Hands shot up across the classroom, and my own nervous hand rose up to join them. Mrs. Fisher happily chalked up the small fortune of books that our class had read.
“Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan is the short story about the importance of language and how it is a key for communication. Tan emigrated from China to Oakland, California and she was a first generation of Asian-American. The author is very fascinated by the language and she believes that the language has the power of emotions, a visual image, a complex idea, and a simple truth. She also believes that there are many different types of “Englishes”.
If there was a way to discover one’s own destiny, would the man avert himself from it, or learn to accept it and go along? In Ted Chiang’s Story Of Your Life, the main character Dr. Louise Banks sees her own fate while doing her work on the alien’s language. Foreshadowing events in her life strongly support the theme “accepting one’s fate” of the story. This is represented by how she foreshadows events she would dislike and events she would find satisfactory.
My five signature themes were: Achiever- As an Achiever, “No matter how much you may feel you deserve a day of rest, if the day passes without some form of achievement, no matter how small, you will feel dissatisfied.†Sometimes people call me an overachiever, but that is how I feel is my normal. Harmony- I do not like when people argue because I feel there is a better way for everyone to get along. Once everyone is in harmony, life is much smoother. Input-
Many will never be able to grasp the full capacity of the power of language. Although, some of us can experience the depths of its ability through personal experience of upbringings and struggles. Jimmy Santiago Baca in “Coming into Language” talks about his own obstacles he had to overcome and how language became a way of life through the dark times of hopelessness. Whereas, Christine Marin in “Spanish Lessons” used language to find and learn about her identity to later become a voice for it and also make a difference in the community. These stories and our own backgrounds with language allow us to understand its capabilities of how it can transcend the mere means of just communication into a world of discovery and exploration.
To be orphaned from my native language felt, and still feels, like a crucial decision” (Lin 6). Yiyun Lin is caught between letting go her native language and wishes she can speak both because they both identify her. She struggles on choosing one of them and having one of them as a memory or a dream. This not only becomes a struggle for her, but an eye open decision on solving the problem of how she can combine a private language into a public language. “English is my private language.
Tension and miscommunication often arise between those who speak different languages and those from different cultures. Surprisingly, the film Arrival displays an effective form of communication despite a language barrier and explores the significance and power of language in constructing reality through determining the intentions of an alien race. Twelve alien pods locate themselves in twelve different parts around the world leaving each country to take separate approaches in figuring out the aliens’ purpose on Earth. Although there were many different approaches and progressions in communicating with the seven-legged aliens, called heptapods, the question of why Louise Banks, the linguist, was the only successful person in understanding the
