I will be applying a Jungian psychological interpretation of Parade by Abraham Rattner. Parade is a piece of art depicting a civil rights march, presumably led by Martin Luther King Jr. Immediately, the painting portrays the rebel archetype. For example, people are holding up signs saying things such as, "We want peace." The goal of the rebel is to overturn what is not working; MLK Jr. was protesting racial inequality. Furthermore, the rebel's core desire is to bring about revenge or revolution. The lightest, and largest, part of the painting shows a mother shielding her white child, who seems shocked and scared, from the mob of people protesting, which represents the Jungian Good Mother archetype.
