I always love to read books and watch their movies, because I get to witness the differences that take place. I prefer the books because they have more detail and really let you decide how the characters look and act. Lots of times, the stories are different than the film versions. Throughout Schindler’s List by Steven Spielberg, Oskar Schindler’s character has changed drastically. At the beginning of World War II, Schindler was a womanizing, selfish and manipulative man. After seeing the process that he watched the Jews go through, he realizes the way the Nazis have treated them is unacceptable. Towards the end of the war Schindler has grown due to the experiences he has been through. These experiences have made him a decent, unselfish, and manipulative man.

In the 1989 Batman film, Tim burton uses a mix of medium shots to show the hand-to-hand combat scenes and close-up shots to show the emotion on Batman’s face. An example would be when the Joker was first introduced to the audience, the Joker turns around where his face was very close to the camera to show the bad condition his face was in. Another example would be in the movie Edward Scissorhands Tim Burton uses a long shot when Peg is standing on the edge of the castle where the roof was torn off. This shows the vulnerability of Peg, it makes her look weak and small.
The mood of the movie at this point shifts from dark and solemn to alive and talkative. The active dialogue and intonation used by the actors made the storyline interesting. For example, the news reporters exemplified the very image of a news reporter back in the day: curious, chatty, and amusing. Their somewhat boisterous nature is countered by unconventional lighting, as the audience hears their conversation but sees mostly shadows or just glimpses of their faces.

Then it pans to a close up on Sam and leans in as the intensity of her dialogue increases. It acts as a subjective narrative which observes the protagonists’ argument from an emotional point of view. The director intention was to allow the audience to be fixed on the emotions of the characters through their eyes, hand movements and facial expressions. Through such close ups, the emotional distance between the audience and characters are reduced. It encouraged audiences to experience the intensity of the argument by staring at the actors expressions.
It is easier for the audience to possess these issues. The use of music or silent also helps convey the atmosphere of the film and highlight characters’ emotions. Symbolism also plays a huge part in this movie. One of the most prominent elements in the movie is the narration of Forrest Gump, who serves as a first-person narrator to tell his life story.
