Given the scenario, I do think that the television episode may have really caused Victor Bautista and Matthew Montejo to murder their mother. It’s rare, but in some murder cases, the killer’s motive behind their crime is because, they were inspired by a person, who’s more than likely to be notorious as well. Victor Bautista and Matthew Montejo were inspired by an episode off a television show to murder their mother. This is a case of Latent learning, in which a new behavior is obtained, but is not demonstrated until some incentive is provided for displaying it. In other words, the television show that both Victor and Matthew were inspired by exposed them to a killer’s behavior. For example, a normal person could watch a gruesome movie and still would never in their life even think to demonstrate what they saw. You have some people who can’t even watch gruesome movies because their minds can’t bare it. The people who are more susceptible to these kinds of ideas more than others are mentally ill individuals. There are a few people who are mentally ill who may try to demonstrate certain acts they see on television. Anybody who can demonstrate a gruesome act and think it’s okay simply because they saw it on television is truly mentally ill. Therefore, I believe that those who are inspired by violent television shows and movies, already suffer from some sort of mental illness. This also go along with being able to separate fiction from reality. Generally speaking, we all know that everything we see on television are sometimes either not to be tried at home, not to be demonstrated at all, or not even realistic to try in real life.
