The Vitenam was one of the biggest blunders in American history. The war split America in two, and tensions in the country were high. It seemed as though everyone in America was mad at their government for some reason. The Vietnam war affected the United States of America socially, economically, and politically. Socially, the Vietnam war caused a split between the rich and the poor. This is shown by the corrupt way that the draft was held. 4 out of every 5 kids from Harvard didn't have to go to war, while others did(Doc F). Because they were "elite", they were picked over someone else. Many had also come to the conclusion that Vietnam equaled death(Doc B). Many parents tried extremely hard to not send their kids away to war because of the percent of deaths that occurred there. Even popular speakers like Martin Luther King spoke out against these injustices(Doc C). While America was worrying about helping the people overseas, they weren't helping their own people(Doc A). …show more content…

The Great Society was an ideal that was supposed to help the poor and unlucky people of the lower class. However, this couldn't occur if they were to follow the current foreign policy(Doc D). Sadly, they chose to continue their foreign policy and almost forget about the lower class. Most of the money and time was now spent towards fighting Vietnam. After Vietnam, people realized the downsides to the war and tried to decide how they could do better. They came up with a multitude of things that would help for the next time they were in this situation(Doc H). But, these circumstances and decisions would go against America's natural way of thought, power. Even when the solutions of this was right in front of our faces, we still couldn't do
