This investigation is focused on what the United States; Government greatest interest was when entering the Vietnam War. Many people argued that the United States’ government decision to enter the Vietnam led to increased tensions which consequently led to a war whose purpose was unclear to the United States’ general public. In order to evaluate the United States’ government greatest interest in Vietnam, this inquiry highlights various books, political journal, and articles on the Vietnam War. The Eisenhower Administration’s Nation Building, New Look, Domino Effect theory, and the 1956 reunification elections are used to find the United States’ interest.
When President Eisenhower took over President Truman attempt to “control of Indochina in the face of opposition from Vietnamese Communists” (Sanders, 51), the Soviet Union and Chinese were helping the North Vietnamese (Herring, 106). After the horrific lost at Dien Bein Phu, the French withdrew from Vietnam and the United States replaced them. Eisenhower predicted that 80% of the population would have voted for Hoi Chi Minh (Turner 39). However, many people speculate that the United States’ government was going to undermine the election process and make Hoi Chi Minh lose because the election did not even take place within Vietnam (Cuddy, 354). Other people hypothesize that the Eisenhower’s quote that said Hoi Chi Minh would win was not directed towards the ’56 election. This hypothesis suggests that the United States did not try to undermine the election, but support it. However, they had a condition to supporting it, the country and election was be put under close super vision by the United Nations. (Turner,
