Case Study on Vietnamese Cultural Values
I. Vietnamese People and Languages:
There are more than 60 groups having different ethnicities; however majority of them are Vietnamese. 85% of total populations are Vietnamese while 15% of the population belongs from other groups. One of the majority ethnicity living in Vietnam is Chinese. The other two groups are Cham and the Khmer. The objective of the current paper is to an analysis of Vietnamese cultural values. In Hence, it has been decided to take a Vietnamese as the case to meet the objective of the study. Most of Vietnamese are living in mountains regions of the country, and they are divided into groups named as Montagnards (Clyne & Clyne, 2011). All family members live under one roof and respect is an essential element of family system in Vietnam. 80% of Viet population is living in villages where living standard of people is comparatively small and less tight as well. Villagers like to live in swallows and social meeting place is considered compulsory in each village. Framing is only one source of earning and electricity facilities are not everywhere. All Viet people are hardworking and women at communities also participate in farming, Girls mostly cook at homes and literacy rate in villages is comparatively small. Lose pants and shirts are wore by Viet framers and mainly communities are developed in form of colonies after Vietnam War. The other 20% of Viet population is living in cities where life schedules are very tight (Ralston, Van Thang, & Napier, 2009). Construction business, trading, merchants, government jobs, street vendors and several other occupations are source of income for people. People like to wear t-shirts and jeans. The cities are very crowded and expensive as well. In the towns, family bonds are also high but not like villages. Mostly families do dinner at 6 pm to 7 pm and at 10pm, they go to their beds. The Viet music is very popular as it has ups and downs like Viet language. The Viet music is divided into three categories: Folk, Classical, and Choral. The songs sung by children and funeral songs fall under the category of folk music. The classical music is developed after the Chinese penetration, and it resembles Chinese music. Choral music is played through Viet musical instruments. Bamboo flutes, xylophones, 16 string zither, double trumpets, and bamboo tubes are standard Viet musical instruments. Viet novels are very uncommon. However, Viet poetry and Viet short stories are very familiar. Kim Van Kieu is the very popular Viet poem (Ralston, et al., 2009).
