The compass did not make its way north until the thirteenth century, but without it the Vikings established techniques to navigate the land and seas (Schaefer). Instead, the Vikings used astrology, sundials, and quite possibly the alluring sunstone to find their way. The accuracy of the tools used may be questioned due to the lack of artifacts, but each theory presents logical ideas and is entirely possible.
