Controlling and reducing violent behavior has been a focus for society. Sociologists have long studied the causes of violence in America. Experiments and reports have shown that violence in America is strongly influenced by drugs and share a positive correlation, therefore when one increases so does the other. The status of the drugs that beget violence in America consist of legal and not yet legal. Some Americans believe that with the legalization of drugs: violence would decrease, yet others believe that enforcing law on drugs is more of a solution to the problem, and while both solutions may sound compromising, no solution comes without flaws. Sociologists have identified the types of violence that drugs incite. On one hand, studies show that the ban of drugs, for example the prohibition of alcohol in the early 1900’s, are the cause of the majority of drug related violence in America. Prohibition advocates saw it their way and shut down many breweries, distilleries, and saloons, this was what would be known as the Prohibition era. This law brought about many changes in the American community. One of the great impacts America experienced was economically, small businesses such as bars and restaurants started to go out of business due to the lack of alcohol profit. The other great impact on American society was socially, the American population experienced a rise in criminal activity due to the high demand of alcohol. Criminals such as Al Capone, rose in power and made a fortune out of bootlegging. It was by the early 1930’s that Franklin D. Roosevelt decided to appeal the law. Not only did the country reduce violence rates but it brought back many alcohol tax
