The media plays an imperative role in educating the world about past or current historical events. There have been countless films, television shows, music, and art depicting the events of the past. The Netflix original movie Mudbound set in Mississippi during the 1940s. The film is about a white family and a black family in Mississippi living on a farm working in poverty. Both families have a son off fighting for The United States of America in World War II. The film shows the emotions of the families and also follows the sons through their experiences at war and returning home. The families have a few things in common, and the only factor that is making them not equal is their race. There were significant milestones being made, for example, Jackie Robinson become the first African American to play major league baseball. In 1942, early civil rights activist founded the interracial Congress of Racial Equality, also known as CORE. CORE protested directly against racial inequality in public accommodations. Although these demonstrations did not get the national attention that postwar protests would, they constituted the prelude to the civil rights movement. In the film, Ronsel encounters an angry white southerner who was not onboard with equality and got very upset Ronsel walked through the front door. Ronsel said to the man, “When we was overseas they didn't make us use the back door. General Patton put us on the front line. Yes, sir. You know what we did? We kicked the hell out of Hitler and them Jerries! While y'all at home, safe and sound…”. How the white man was acting, was exactly what the activist were trying to get rid of with CORE. They were trying to make America realize that abroad they were equal, and fought for the lives of every American no matter what
