Hildegard of Bingen was born September 16th 1098, in Germany into a highborn family. She was the daughter of a knight. She was considered "One of the most important figures in the history of the Middle Ages" and "the greatest woman of her time" by her admirers. Her time would be considered as the 1100's. When Hildegard was eight years old she went to The Benedictine Monastery at Mount St. Disiboden to be educated. Disibodenberg is a monastery ruin located in Rhineland-Palatihale, Germany. It was founded by Saint Disibod. Hildegard of Bingen wrote Disabod's biography "Vita Sancti Disibodi" also known as "Life of Disibodenberg". Hildegard von Bingen started having visions that she believed God was giving her some sort of deed to do and to let others know about it. Between the males that had dominated the society, Hildegard believed that sooner or later it was time for a change. Several times after being humiliated by the males of the dominating society, Hildegard would not give up on what she was being told by God. Nobody would believe her, they thought of her as somebody who was very ill but the sisters of Hildegard and Hildegard herself thought differently. Where Hildegard and her sisters lived had been decreasing in size because of so many woman who would vow to Hildegard to join her group of virgins and love God for eternity. Hildegard talked to one of the rulers where they lived about moving somewhere else that would have enough space for everyone, he disagreed. She soon passed the control of Kuno of the monastery, after her recognition by Pope Eugenius III she began to attract even more woman of her group. The persuasion of Bingen allowed her and her sisters to finally move so that they could live a better life. This started a battle between the males who were already dominating their society and
