Abstract: There is much that is unknown for about the skin disorder vitiligo. The National Institute of health has reported that vitiligo only affects about 1%-2% of the world populations, making it a fairly common disorder in the field of medicine and health. There are about 200,000 vitiligo cases reported each year. This papers serves as a compilation of research for understanding the complexities of this particular skin disorder. I will explore the causations of the disorder. Additionally, I will explore the effects of the disorder, as well as treatment and prevention of the disorders. To further explain this suggestion, it is important to understand what an auto immune disease is. An auto immune disorders occur when the cells in the body mistakes parts of itself as a foreign invader, and attacks or kills itself. In this case, scientist suggest that the melanocytes cells attack and kill themselves off. Another type of vitiligo, called segmental vitiligo, is suggested to occur when the there is some sort of disarray in the nervous system, though scientist and researcher cannot exactly pin point what that disconnect might be. Vitiligo can affect anyone, regardless of ethnicity, race, age, or gender. One misconception is that vitiligo only affects people of color, but that is not so. Vitiligo is more noticeable in people of color because of how prominently the white patches of skin contrasts with the darker complexions of people of color. There are factors that could increase the chances of a person developing vitiligo. One of the biggest factors that could increase the chances of a person developing vitiligo is whether or not they have a relative who has vitiligo. Vitiligo can be something that is passed down to off springs through genetics, just like a lot of disorders and diseases.
