How good is Vladek's Memory Throughout the story of “Maus” by: Art Spiegelman, Vladek told his side of story about him and his family going through WW2 being Jewish and running/hiding from the Germans and doing anything they could in order to stay alive. Even though Art had a hard time keeping his father on track with his story and having his father tell it in order, Vladek did a great job telling his story with as much detail as possible. During the whole time of the story Vladek was slowly getting worse with old age and memory loss but something that happened years ago could never leave his memory. Griffin) Vladek kept on with his story after many months past, and every time Art came by for any reason Vladek would always go back to the place that he left off the last time they spoke about his past. Vladek also had to put up with some of his deepest memories, like when he almost got caught by German soldiers while carrying a bag of sugar, they stopped him in his tracks and would’ve killed him on the spot if he didn’t come up with something fast and that isn’t the only time that German soldiers almost killed him for no reason. Vladek told Art about some of the smartest things that he did in order to survive like when he hid material under his clothes and walked past guards without them suspecting a thing. Vladek also remembered most of the people that he made friends with and what they did for him with the bunkers, extra food, special papers, and money. Vladek’s closest friend during that time would’ve been Haskel the Shoemaker.
