Ella Jane Fitzgerald Ella Jane Fitzgerald sang well and became very well known in her lifetime, causing her to win many awards. She was a Jazz singer for most of her life, and was adored by many people despite being faced with discrimination. Her music is still appreciated today. She sang jazz songs and was able to go from a high note to a low note within seconds. Many people adore Ella's voice because of her range of voice. If you listen to one of her songs, you can hear all sorts of notes in her voice. This was amazing to listeners at the time, and they loved it. This caused a famous band leader, Chick Webb, to ask her to join his band. Ella had soon later recorded her first hit, “A Tisket A Tasket” (Cook, E 2024). In the last paragraph, I mentioned her voice range, but she also utilized scat, which is singing, but instead of words it's rhythmic, wordless syllables making the lyrics (Cook, E 2024). She used scat cleverly in songs like “How High The Moon” C. Being a person of color in the music industry was either extremely successful, or you couldn't get anywhere because of discrimination. Either way, Ella was successful and had won multiple awards, as well as given names like “The First Lady of Song” (Encyclopedia Britannica n.d). Ella's music was loved by many people, including Marilyn Monroe, both women seeing each other as a role model/inspiration (Kirkfield & Harris, 2020, p. 10).
