It is the first day of volleyball class and all of the students are waiting to get started. The class begins, as the coach, I start by taking attendance, going over the rules of volleyball, then leading in to the different ways of hitting the ball. After going over the fundaments, the students would go through the game of pepper to get a feel for the game. The last part of class I would have the students play an actual game so they can get the true feeling of moving for the ball and touching the ball. Taking attendance at the beginning of every class is important to get a feel for the students who want to learn how to play volleyball and those who have no interest. Pepper consists of partner 1 tossing the ball to the other, partner 2 passing the ball back, partner 1 setting the ball, and partner 2 attacking the ball. After partner 2 attacks the ball, partner 1 immediately reacts and passes the ball back restarting the sequence. This is a good game for students to play to not only warm up but also get a feel what a game will feel like. After the students are warmed up and ready, I would have them split up into teams 6 making sure the teams playing against each other are at about the same level. I would not however move people who have played volleyball over to a group that is still learning. That turns out to be less fun for the volleyball intelligent students. Having them play a game is a way for them to see volleyball is fun but also get more into the game. A few rules I would include starting out is they are only allowed to serve five times in a row and they need to hit the ball three times per side before returning the ball back to the other team. I would also encourage them to use the sequence bump, set, spike when returning the
