Bethel Baptist Church never encountered a challenge like this before. The church accepted an invitation to participate in a mission in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Making an appearance in a foreign environment terrified both adolescents and adults. Even with those uneasy feelings, the congregation quickly zeroed in on the goal at hand in spreading God’s love to this needy region. With events such as church cleanup, food ministry, and disaster relief, the church left with a greater appreciation of life, and how lucky many of the citizens in the United States truly are.

The highly regarded claim of drill team members and directors is that students learn skills that the classroom cannot teach: “self-assurance, grooming, good manners, self-discipline, physical fitness, poise… share with others, to set goal… reinforced the values that parents emphasized…” (Pennington, Joyce E). When lots of kids spend a lot of time together during practices, classes, and competitions, they really learn to be close to one another. One man or woman cannot possibly run an entire group of about one hundred kids doing who knows what; so then some of the kids that are either the oldest, more experienced, or more talented. This means those kids learn responsibility and leadership. The forms on the field don’t just happen, every person has to move the same way, have the same horn angle, same toe height. Every person out there, they have to work together, it is not just an individual attempt.
