Voting Rights in the 1960’s
Voting rights in the United States in the mid 1900’s was a struggle for blacks in the South, they were beat, told they weren’t good enough, belittled and laughed at way too much until they fought and received change. The Northern states were not as bad as the south, blacks were still segregated in more low class towns even if they were able to afford nicer things. Brutality was so horrible towards African Americans they have a whole day in history named after the of brutal beatings on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, this day is known as “Bloody Sunday.” Segregation and racism in the south towards African American people limited their voting rights through literacy tests which led to protesting and riots.
