In our Walk to Read class we have a student who cannot pay attention or sit still. The student is constantly distracting other or doing his own thing. Time after time Mrs.Schaff is calling on him to pay attention or to be quiet because he will just talk out of turn or yell over students. This week alone the individual student lasted not even five minutes on the rug with the rest of the class before he was sent to his chair. Once in his chair we wasn 't bothering other students, but was not even paying attention. He would find a pencil to mess around with or mess around with his chair. The student was not even remotely engaged in the activity.

Because he was so disruptive to the other student, it was best to remove him from the situation. However once moved the behavior didn 't change, infact it probably got worse because the student was far away from the teacher to get away with more things. I believe the meaning of being told to go to your chair is in some ways a punishment because most students want to be involved in the group, but students are also expected to behave and follow along with the class just away from their peers. This was not the case for this individual student. I think removing him from the group caused more disruptions than when sitting with the group.

Analysis:

I think removing the student was a necessary action, however by removing the student from the group he did not retain an learning. So to me I think this was a pointless action to take for disciplining the student. I think that the teacher should had rearranged the students and had this student come sit next to her so that he could monitored along with not being distracting to his peers.
