There might be someone you look up to. In your eyes they may be the most amazing person in the world. They might have flaws like everyone else, but you chose to ignore those flaws and see the amazing person they are. Mr. Winterbottom, the father of Phoebe once went to a carnival. They played an age guessing game, in this game they guessed his age way older than his real age. Phoebe who sees her father as the perfect human being got really angry. In the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, Phoebe learns and accepts that not everything can be perfect when an external force, her Mother, leaves for awhile. Phoebe starts making changes when Phoebe sees her Mother and Mike kiss, Phoebe sees her mother finally home but dressed differently than usual, and Phoebe shows her change when she spat out onto the street.
One way this external force showed Phoebe her family isn’t as perfect as she thought was when Phoebe and Sal witnessed Mrs.Winterbottom and Mike the lunatic kiss on the cheek. “On the bench was Phoebe’s mother and she was kissing the lunatic.” That’s a quote from the novel. You can’t tell what Phoebe was thinking but you could tell that Phoebe was shocked and couldn’t deny what she was seeing. Phoebe froze and didn’t say anything.
