Whether we acknowledge it or not, most of the people in our society fear death. In the novel Walking on Water, written by Richard Paul Evans, the main character Alan Christofferson faces many day to day challenges after losing two of the closest people in his life. I can and cannot relate to the main characters situations. This novel, in my opinion, was a great read, at certain times it was very pessimistic but at the same time I had the urge to keep reading because of how much pathos I had for some the characters in the novel. Throughout the novel, I was able to relate to the main character Alan. Just after his father had passed away, Alan’s friend Nicole tried to convince Alan to call Falene and invite her for coffee and tell her about the news. I also would have enjoyed the novel less if I could not have related to the main character at some points in the novel. At other points in the novel I would have enjoyed it less if I could have related to the main character. It was great being able to connect with the book on a personal level and it was also great not being able to relate because I got to learn how different people can handle scenarios differently. I could also relate this novel to the Secret Daughter novel. The main character Asha does not know her true self and wants to know more about her past. This also happens to Alan. He feels as though it is important to figure out his past and during the novel he finds a book on the history of his family and he was able to grow as a person after reading that book.
