“First think. Second, dream. Third, believe. Fourth, dare.” (Walt Disney) Everyone knows Walt
Disney, with his magical worlds and unforgettable characters. Especially the Disney Princesses, who are loved by people young and old. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and the Little Mermaid are all stories we have grown up knowing, but we can not forget Cinderella and her evil stepfamily. But the Cinderella we know and love is actually just one of many versions. A French writer by the name of Charles Perrault created the version that Disney adapted into it’s animated movie, however Cinderella’s story is over 2000 years old and originated in Greece. Many other versions came afterwards, but the most interesting take on the tale was made by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in 19th century Germany. The brothers gave the story a much darker and not so child friendly twist. Don’t be afraid of hard work, always be kind, and never stop believing are just a few. But the Grimm version gives different lessons depending on who is reading the story. If you’re a child reading the story, you may learn that if you are mean and selfish that you’ll get your eyes pecked out by pigeons, but if you’re part of an older audience reading the story you may still learn the same lesson, but you may also learn that if you just power through a hard time that karma will win in the end. All of the above mentioned lessons are lessons that children should grow up knowing and being taught, because while there is great strength in kindness, there are still people that don’t live by the same rule. There will always be someone who will be mean, nasty and try to get you down, but if they continue their actions kara will eventually do it’s work and get them in the end.
