The act of racism has been present in every society throughout history. Discrimination of other groups based on their different descent and ethnicity. These forms of hatred and negativity are based off old fashion values and traditions. People of different cultures believe there’s is superior, this belief in superiority may take the form of ethnocentrism or prejudice. In early Vancouver, the Chinese and First Nations experienced this disparagement first hand.

The author describes when Loung had an overdose, “I pop four pills into my mouth. But the pain is still there. I pour out another handful.
Another character that plays a part into the display of the changing character of Mr. Chiu is his wife. She was a flat and static character. Even though she had very few lines in the story, his thoughts on her has changed from admiration to belittling. He went from worrying about her well-being to calling her stupid for her choice of whom to call to save him. The character that came his rescue is Fenjin.
Similar to Salva’s case, Xing Xing finds a father figure in a ‘doctor’ who he asks her to call him ‘Yao Wang’. A while after he is cruel to her and portrays his real attitude towards her as mischievous and greedy and is abandoned by him
Throughout the story, he gets a chance to become something great. Oren is a complex character because he is nervous, doubtful, and very pressured. Oren is a complex character because he's nervous. In the story, he has all of his padding on
However, Lung still has his faults. Wang Lung continues to be the character with whom readers identify and sympathize. Throughout the novel, The Good Earth, Wang Lung demonstrates his faults as well as his virtues. The Ripple Effect of Ignorance - Yin Chin Maracle chooses to display the ripple effect of racism by shedding light on the unjust treatment of the First Nations and Chinese people by writing a story of a First Nation who grew up in a mixed neighborhood that is flooded with prejudice and stereotypes. Maracle further challenges the recurring stereotypes of societal views of minority groups by addressing them through the speaker’s point of view. While sounding like a stereotypical Chinese name or word, the title “Yin Chin” stems from the related sounding word Injun, a way to describe a stereotypical First Nations man or woman who is a “savage warrior” (Churchill 1998). The word dates back to the early settlement of English colonists as a way
The third example “Husband and wife were originally birds in the same forest. When destiny determines each flies away” (p.36), Mei is saying Saoqiao is heartbroken and regretful, and even tried to commit suicide after her divorce. These three example conclude Menglong’s languages is hackneyed and low in literary because it quotes a set phrase dismissive of the true emotion between Xingge and Sanqiao. Feng Menglong’s content and method of his edification are different from traditional morality and Neo-Confucian ethics, but I’m still thinking, “The pearl Shirt Reecountered” is an interesting chapter to read because it is different from other books.

Character relatability. Quinonez was very effective in making his characters real and relatable by using casual conversations in the way his characters communicated with each other. The verbal expressions of the characters were done so realistically and naturally. This technique added to the depth of humanization of each character allowing the audience to forget that they are just characters in a fictional novel. The characters of Chino and Sapo came to life as they talk, with the boldness and frankness of kids growing up poor and as a minority, in a world they are trying to fit in desperately.
When I read a book I have a tendency to get connected to the characters. It makes me feel good when something good happens to them. Quote “The stewardess asked me to fill out these cards. I’m afraid I’ve forgotten your Chinese name. Is it Jun-qing?
It is obvious after you read the characters past that he is has a desire to escape, the desire to have a better future and to have people not look at him and his hands as the man he is. Wing is a genuine character, smart and thoughtful. In the story you can tell that Wing as a heart he wants the share with the youth and he also have knowledge he wants to share. The contrast of the characters warmth and humanness with the brutality and narrow-mindedness of others from his past. “His need to censor his hands’ expression is only slightly more powerful that his need to fulfill himself by teaching with caresses, and consequently, his hands are “forever active” yet “Forever striving to conceal themselves” (p.28), representing not only his inner struggle but the subsequent suffering his struggle entails.
